Geoengineering characteristics modeling of Eocene limestone beds of the upper plateau of Mokattam area, Egypt using GIS techniques

Abstract This research paper is concerned with studying and evaluating the geoengineering characteristics potential risks of area under study a view to safe urban expansion using GIS techniques. Different geotechnical laboratory tests such Atterberg limits, free swelling test, swell pressure tests, chemical analysis, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) rock quality designation (RQD) were performed on 28 boreholes (95 samples). Furthermore, X-ray diffraction was used examine clay minerals. The results indicate that UCS values range from 47 72.2 kg/cm 2 RQD 21 45%. ratio ranges 110 120%, plasticity index 34 37%. In addition, techniques have been utilized produce distribution layers different characteristics, then integrated geospatial model for delineating defining dangerous zones. classified into four classes: low, moderate, high very hazard. Low moderate hazards detected in major portion survey area. These portions are suitable foundations at shallow depths. However, southeast reason these areas caused by existence heavily fractured limestone highly layers. would aid creation discovery best base region consideration.
